Annual Institute “WOWS” US
ALL – Perhaps it was
the invigorating speech delivered during breakfast by Mayor
Carlos Alvarez that created a buzz of excitement during the
4th Annual Institute, or maybe it was the delicious stuffed
chicken and sautéed
vegetables catered at the Miami Beach Convention Center,
that aided in folks leaving the event feeling satisfied,
whatever the reason, the Institute themed: Building a Livable
Community for ALL was a wild success, creating a positive
energy among the Miami- Dade community…

Hurricane
Season Is Over, But We’re
Not Sitting Still - After
the 2005 Hurricane season, the Alliance for Human Services
spearheaded work on a plan, thanks to the generous funding
from the Allegany Franciscan Ministries and the Knight Foundation,
to support community based organizations with the development
and implementation of the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP)
, assist the Neighborhood Resource Networks with disaster readiness,
and to lead efforts to re-activate the Voluntary Organization
Active in Disaster (VOAD), a county-wide not-for-profit organization
charged with disaster planning and response….

CAAT Implementation
Update (No, Not The Furry Kind) - The
Alliance for Human Services organized a beta test of the
Common Administrative Assessment Tool Initiative (CAAT) in
August and September of 2006. The testing was largely
successful with the CAAT tool and inter-agency administrative
review process performing as expected. Based on the
testing, revisions are currently being made and versions
2.0 of the CAAT tool and manual are forthcoming. In
the meantime, versions 1.0 of these documents, as well as
a report on the testing process, and next steps are all available

LEGISLATIVE AND
POLICY HIGHLIGHTS - Serving
In 2006, the Alliance for Human Services’ Legislative & Policy
Committee was active in a number of public education and policy
outreach efforts. Highlights included: Citizens Health
Care Working Group Town Hall Meeting: On August 22, 2006,
the Alliance for Human Services, the Human Services Coalition,
and Florida CHAIN hosted a town hall meeting to comment on
the recommendations of the Citizens Health Care Working Group. As
part of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization
Act Of 2003, the U.S. Congress created the Citizens' Health
Care Working Group….
